Steve from Minecraft joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

Steve from Minecraft joins Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

Nintendo has released a short Super Smash Bros. Direct today, revealing the game's 77th fighter, Steve!

Steve enters the fray using various tools from Minecraft, such as a pickaxe, a bucket filled with lava, TNT, a fishing rod, a minecart, and even a sword! (yes, that includes the Diamond Sword as well) Steve's Final Smash is to send the opponent to a building filled with TNT Crates, Zombies, and Creepers. The Creepers approach the foe and promptly explode a few seconds later, sending various pieces of the building - and the opponent - flying!

Steve isn't the only one joining the battle. His female counterpart Alex, a Zombie, and an Enderman are also joining the battle as Steve's alternate costumes!

Minecraft is an indie game that was first revealed to the public in 2009 as a public demo before getting an official release in 2011. In it, players can play as either Steve or Alex, or even make their own custom character. There are a variety of game modes, such as Survival Mode, in which the player arrives in a randomly generated world and must try and survive as long as possible. Hardcore Mode, which is similar to Survival mode, except that if the player dies, they lose all of their progress and must start over from the beginning. Creative Mode, where the player is free to do whatever they want, such as build various buildings. Adventure Mode, in which the player can play a map that another player has created. And Spectator Mode, where a player can watch another player play the game, but can't really interact with them.

Another direct showcasing Steve's moveset will be aired on the 3rd of this month, so look forward to it!
