Pac-Man 99 announced for Nintendo Switch!

Back in 2019, Nintendo launched Tetris 99, a battle royale game that saw you trying to outlast 98 other players to win the game. Nintendo would follow this up with Super Mario 35, a game that was made to celebrate Super Mario's 35th anniversary. Players would play Super Mario Bros. and would battle 34 other players by sending enemies they've defeated over to their opponents. Of course, the game was only staying up until March 31st, 2021, after which it would be taken down. Yesterday, Namco has announced a game that will be following in their footsteps: Pac-Man 99.

Exclusive to Nintendo Switch for people who have the online subscriptions, Pac-Man 99 sees players playing the classic game of Pac-Man while battling 98 other players. Using Power Pellets, players can munch on the ghosts to send Jammer Pac-Man over to their opponents. If one bumps into a Jammer Pac-Man, they will slow down, which could allow one of the four ghosts to catch Pac-Man and end the game. The game ends once 98 players have lost, with the last player standing being declared the winner.

The base game will be free with no additional costs. However, if one wishes, they can purchase a pack that will give them some alternate game modes, such as CPU mode and Time Attack. Players can also buy custom themes that change how the game looks, such as replacing Pac-Man with the protagonist of Dig Dug. The additional modes pack is priced at $15, while the alternate themes are priced at $2 each. One can also just buy all the extras at once for $30.

The game will be released today at 6 PM PST. Switch Online owners can pre-load the game by going to Nintendo's website to download it.
